News & Events

The Jean Tweed Centre is partnering with the YWCA and Wigwamen Aboriginal Housing Collective and has been selected to be the recipients of 300 units of affordable housing located at 110 Edward Street in downtown Toronto. 30 of those units will be 1, 2 & 3 bedroom units allocated for Jean Tweed clients and their families. This represents the realization of a long held goal of securing safe second stage housing for women and their families seeking to make lasting positive lifestyle changes.

The Centre is proud to host the limited screening in February of their new documentary "Stronger Than Love". Produced by the Jean Tweed Centre through the generosity of Transamerica Life Canada, this film is directed by Calibre Entertainment's Calum deHartog and Oscar nominated director Hubert Davis. It features the compelling and inspiring stories of four women who have been involved with the Centre and will be used in the Centre's treatment program. It will also be available for commercial distribution.

The Centre is soon to be launching the successful and respected "Strengthening Families" program this spring in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. This program, recognized internationally for its impact works with families affected by substance abuse in an innovative three part format that runs for a period of 12 weeks. To be held on site, families from all over the GTA will be eligible to participate. For more information, contact: Lucy Hume at Ext. 242.

Major Gift Announced! The Centre is deeply appreciative to have received a gift of $200,000 from the GMP Securities L.P.'s Charitable Foundation.
