Phase II: Intensive Programs
At the Jean Tweed Centre, we make every effort to ensure that the substance use / gambling program option we help you select is most suitable to your individual circumstances, including where you live. This section describes our different programs.
Problem Substance Abuse Programs
Residential Program
- A 21-day intensive program, conducted 13 times per year, that offers counseling
and workshops – together with residential accommodation – to
help women establish a meaningful life within their community
- Women live in the JTC residential facility called Cumberland House: a large
Victorian-era house situated in a park setting by the shore of Lake Ontario
- At Cumberland House, the goal is to provide an emotionally and physically
safe homelike environment where you can reflect on the work you do in
the program, and have the opportunity to interact with other women
- Women travel by taxi to the daily program, held Monday to Friday from 9:00
a.m. to 4 p.m., at JTC facility at 215 Evans Avenue
- Program components include: individual and group counselling; relapse prevention;
life-skills workshops covering such topics as self-esteem, assertiveness,
parenting, family and relationships, women’s health, recreation & leisure
planning
- While in the Residential Program, you take part in some additional evening
activities, and assume some responsibility for household duties according
to your abilities
- You are required to not have used substances or have engaged in gambling
for at least seven days prior to entry into this program. Should you
require assistance with this, please contact the Intake department
- Women attending either the substance abuse or problem gambling program
reside together at Cumberland House, but attend specific programs during
the day
