Phase 1 Groups

Description

  • Education and support groups to help women in the early stages of recovery
  • Rotating series of topics, dealing with issues related to stopping substance use or gambling, and preparing to make a significant lifestyle change (i.e., self-esteem, nutrition, stages of change, sleep, dealing with anger, depression)
  • Women are invited and encouraged to attend as many Phase I groups as possible to gain information and support while waiting for their Intake appointment, or until their entry date into Phase II
  • Some participants are required to attend a specific number of Phase I groups as a condition of receiving Phase II services

Location and timing:

  • Held at 215 Evans Avenue on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and on Thursday afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.; pre-registration not required; childcare is available
  • Participants are asked to refrain from using any mood-altering substance for at least 24 hours prior to attending the group session
  • Participants who are more than 15 minutes late in arriving will not be allowed entry into the group session
