Our Clients

The clients of Jean Tweed Centre frequently deal with other issues beyond substance use or problem gambling:

  • 70 to 80 percent of women entering the program have a history of childhood physical and/or sexual abuse; many continue to experience violence in their adult lives.
  • More than half of the women have experienced mental-health problems.
  • Many women demonstrate eating-disorders.
  • Over 40 percent have attempted suicide, and many have engaged in self-harm behaviours.

While these statistics are not dissimilar to the general population of women who have substance abuse problems, Jean Tweed has the expertise to address these complex problems.

Nearly 40 percent of women in the program are mothers, and of that number, 44 percent are currently parenting some or all of their children.
