Our mission is to provide counseling and care to assist each woman to restore herself to a meaningful life within her community.

The vision of the Jean Tweed Centre is to be one of the most innovative, accessible and effective centres responding to the needs of women with substance abuse and gambling problems and their families.

Our Approach

The Jean Tweed Centre works from a women-centered framework that validates the experiences of women and contextualizes problems related to substance use and gambling within her broader social and cultural experiences, including trauma violence poverty and other determinants of health.

Statement of Inclusion

The Jean Tweed Centre recognizes and values the rich diversity of Canadian society and specifically the women, children and families we serve.  We are committed to working from an inclusive holistic anti-oppression framework to assist women and their families from various cultures, racialized groups, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientation and gender identities.
Our Clients
The women who access services at The Jean Tweed Centre frequently deal with other complex issues beyond substance use or problem gambling:
  • Approximately 80 percent of women entering the program report a history of abuse, past and present.
  • More than half of the women we see have experienced mental-health problems.
  • Most women accessing services at Jean Tweed are mothers with more than half parenting all or some of their children.
